At Inside Avenue, we serve as your dedicated career partner and advocate, providing confidential representation, tailored interview preparation, and long-term career planning. We are currently partnering with a premier national self-performing contractor to secure an elite field leader for a highly technical, high-profile heavy civil mega-project in Tucson, AZ.

ABOUT THE COMPANY: A Leading National Infrastructure Contractor

Our client is a distinguished, multi-generational federation of specialized heavy civil, mechanical, and marine construction companies. They are a recognized national powerhouse in building complex infrastructure.
  • Self-Perform Culture: Rather than simply brokering out work, they distinguish themselves by self-performing the most demanding construction elements.
  • Synergistic Delivery: Their vertically integrated approach, leveraging specialized internal divisions, provides a massive competitive edge and significantly reduces reliance on outside subcontractors.
  • National Legacy: They boast an impressive portfolio, having successfully completed hundreds of the nation's most complex bridge projects, including world-record cable-stayed structures and intricate segmental bridges.

THE PROJECT:

You will step into a pivotal leadership role on a multi-million dollar heavy civil initiative. This monumental project is designed to replace a severely degraded, functionally obsolete structure with a modern, high-capacity segmental bridge.
  • Operational Constraints: The new structure spans critical, active railroad corridors and a major highway. Critical freight operations must remain entirely uninterrupted throughout the multi-year construction timeline.
  • Technical Methodology: To satisfy these rigorous constraints, the project relies upon a highly technical cast-in-place balanced cantilever segmental construction method.
  • Mid-Air Assembly: The superstructure will be built outward from the piers in mid-air, a mathematically rigorous technique that entirely eliminates the need for ground-based falsework beneath the main spans.

THE ROLE: (Segmental Bridge Operations)

We are seeking a highly technical, hands-on leader to take ownership of the superstructure phase and drive execution with precision, accountability, and discipline.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Field Operations & Team Leadership
  • Lead day-to-day field operations specifically for cast-in-place segmental bridge construction.
  • Act as a self-perform leader who actively understands how to build the work, mentoring and developing crews across union, non-union, and mixed workforce environments.
  • Optimize operational efficiency and critical cycle times for complex segment pours.
Technical Execution & Structural Operations
  • Manage the safe and precise deployment of heavy form travelers and specialized formwork systems.
  • Execute rigorous work plans for segmental sequencing and hydraulic stressing operations.
  • Oversee the precise installation of critical structural components, including post-tensioning systems, complex rebar grids, and embeds.
  • Manage high-stakes concrete placement operations and curing processes.
Quality, Geometry Control, & Engineering Coordination
  • Coordinate continuously with engineering and survey teams to strictly maintain alignment and structural tolerances.
  • Manage rigorous geometry control and execute real-time camber adjustments.
  • Ensure comprehensive quality control across all facets of the superstructure build.
Safety & Risk Mitigation
  • Cultivate an unyielding, zero-tolerance safety culture.
  • Strategically mitigate the severe physical hazards of placing wet concrete and operating heavy machinery hundreds of feet in the air directly over an active freight line.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in heavy civil construction, featuring direct, proven experience in cast-in-place segmental bridge methodologies.
  • A profound understanding of balanced cantilever methods, form traveler mechanics, and post-tensioning systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing geometry control, survey coordination, and real-time camber adjustments.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a construction or engineering field is preferred, or a combination of education and 7 to 10 years of specific construction supervision experience.
