THE ROLE
We are representing a top 400 ENR-ranked national self-perform general contractor to recruit a Senior Estimator to join their East Coast estimating division remotely. This is a strategic role for a company that values field experience as much as estimating expertise.
This position offers the unique opportunity to work remotely (only traveling for site visits and bid weeks) with an established local office in the DC region, currently delivering some of the region's most critical and complex infrastructure project scopes over $1B+, while actively shaping the company's future backlog in the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast heavy civil construction market.
THE COMPANY & PROJECT PORTFOLIO
You will be joining a team with a massive, proven footprint in the DMV and East Coast region. The successful candidate will support bid pursuits to transition the team from their current flagship work to the next generation of mega-projects.
- The contractor's Virginia backlog includes a major 2-mile underground tunnel system and environmental project in Northern Virginia that is now in its final phase of lining and systems installation.
- The estimating team also supports specialized marine work, such as hyperbaric repairs on a bay‑crossing tunnel with demonstrated capacity in underwater and compressed‑air construction.
BID PURSUITS:
Looking ahead, the firm is targeting several large design‑build programs, ranging from new rail‑bridge corridors and fourth‑track expansions to interstate widening and interchange upgrades. These pursuits require a Senior Estimator who can lead pricing strategies on bridges, tunnels and marine structures.
The Estimating Department is aggressively targeting a pipeline of multi-billion dollar heavy civil pursuits, including:
- Major Rail & Bridge Infrastructure: Large-scale passenger rail bridges and capacity expansion projects connecting Northern Virginia and DC.
- Highway & Interchange Upgrades: Complex heavy highway widenings and interchange improvements in the Chesapeake Bay region.
- Marine & Dams: Future marine terminal expansions and dam safety modifications.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Strategic Estimating & Analysis
- Utilize field knowledge and advanced software to prepare competitive cost estimates for heavy-civil projects, including bridges, dams, and marine structures.
- Lead quantity take-offs, labor/equipment costing, and subcontractor solicitations by analyzing plans, specifications, and data to build accurate bids.
- Develop temporary structure concepts (shoring, cofferdams, falsework) and evaluate make-vs-buy decisions for key components.
- Prepare detailed project schedules and pricing documents to establish progress rates and final bid prices for submissions.
- Coordinate with designers, engineers, and construction managers to drive constructible, cost-effective solutions for design-build proposals.
- Participate in bid closeouts and proposal preparations while collaborating with the estimating team and attending site visits as required.
- Experience: 5+ years of estimating experience (or combined field/estimating experience) specifically in bridge, marine, heavy concrete, or underground construction.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with heavy civil estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, Hard Dollar, or similar) is required.
- Field Knowledge: Previous experience as a Field Engineer is highly valued.
TO APPLY: Estimators with a passion for winning high-value megaproject work and building complex infrastructure are encouraged to apply.
